Mom woke up in extreme pain – more morphine for her.
Nothing to eat nor drink as we were told that she would be going for her surgery around noon.
Another x-ray was called for then we got to sit and wait for the surgeon to call for her.
The call came at 12:30 PM – I was told by the two nurses that Mom could be done there for five hours – she might have to wait an hour for the surgeon to finish, then the surgery, then time in the recovery room. I made sure that they had my cell phone number as I decided that I should go back to work to clean up the mess I left on Monday. I wished mom positive thoughts – told her that I loved her and then watched them take my mommy away. That is when I lost it (buy shares in kleenex – the stock is going to go up!)
I got the call from the nurses that Mom was back in her room at 4:15 PM – the surgery did not take long at all. The surgeon put a plate on the outside of both bones to strenghen them, removed the little pieces that were floating around, and cleaned up the site. All I cared about was that my mommy was back and I could go see her again.
I got the hospital (found an easier way to get to her room thanks to Paige!) to make sure that Mom was alive and doing ok. The cast that was put on her leg was a temporary cast; this was later changed to a shocking pink fiberglass cast - non weight bearing.
Mom was in good spirits considering all that she had been through, but was exhausted. I gave her my love, asked the nurse to see if she could be given a mild sleeping aid to help her, and left to go home. Did not know how good a bath felt after being in the same clothes for two days!
Had to introduce myself to my little ones again (as long as you have “cookies” they know you!)
