On Monday March 22nd 2015, Mom was involved in the thirty (30) car pile up that occurred on Highway 2 South near Aldersyde.
Ambulance personnel was dispatched from several of the nearby communities to assist with the victims.
The weather conditions were not great – a couple of inches of snow and black ice covered the highway.
I received a call from a paramedic by the name of George. He was
very professional and compassionate in the way he advised me that Mom
was involved in an accident. I was told that she would be taken to the
Foothills Hospital for assessment and treatment. Mom was given the
phone, and in her mom voice (!) told me not to worry, she was fine, and I
did not need to come to the hospital!
REALLY MOM! – I was just contacted by a paramedic, told that you were
involved in an accident, you were injured, and that you were on your
way to the hospital (not the closest hospital – but one that was on the
other side of the country {yes, I know, slight exaggeration – but I am
entitled – I was a little stressed out at the time}!
My co-worker, Cole, informed me that he would drive me to the
hospital (guess he did not think that I was in any condition to drive –
ya think! While on our way, I got the honor of calling Mom’s most
favorite grandsons – Ryan, Pat, and Adam (listed by age, not favortism
guys) to tell them the news. We all met at the emergency ward of
Foothills Hospital (have you been there lately – get a road map, pack a
suitcase, and take a pager with you in case you get lost). We all beat
G’Ma to the hospital – typical mom – just had to make a grand entrance.
We knew that Mom would be ok – when she saw Adam, she cracked a joke,
then promptly gave him a swift kick (verbally) in the hinny as only a
grandma can!
Mom was moved to room 20 A (not a easy task to find), saw a trauma doctor and was sent for a CT Scan on her neck and back.
