Hi Guys,
Thank you for checking out my blog on Mom.
I saw her on Saturday; the little orphan was sitting waiting for me at the nurse's station (kind of like being sent to the principal's office!) - apparently, now I need to sign her out.
Pool little waif. Tee Hee Hee.
We loaded mom up in the car and headed south - to the hot spot of Longview.
Don't blink, you will miss it! Cute little place though - lots of history there. We then headed east on coal trail to High River - beautiful country side. Because mom was such a good girl (or so she says!) we headed to the Dairy Queen once again. Only this time, a small dipped cone was on the menu.
After Dairy Queen, we headed back west on Coal Trail to Longview, then north to Black Diamond. Had quite the scare pulling into the lot; fire trucks, ambulances, EMS trucks everywhere. I guess there was an emergency, You should have seen the looks on their faces as I, once again, manuevered my little SUV between the pillars right the to sliding doors. I made my way to the nurse's station, was asked if I needed help (guess she hasn't met me!) I told her that I needed a nurse to help me get Mom out of the car - to which I was told that they needed to call EMS - I replied, no you don't; was told - yes I do- by law, they cannot help me. I informed her that in the past, it takes ONE nurse and the wheel chair that was in mom's room. Shannon (the unit clerk) then asks me if mom was a patient there! I laughed at her - she giggled, and I informed her that the joke was on her - EMS was in the parking lot! Jane, one of mom's favorites nurses - laughed, and came to my rescue. I made sure that Mom was settled, then headed into Calgary to my future daughter in law's birthday party.
We decided, that our trip will be out to Kananskis country - head west young man - head west.
Bottom line, Mom is in great spirits, wants to work hard at physio, and is looking forward to May 7th when she meets with the specialist - hopefully, she will be in a walking cast then. Cross your fingers and pray. Mom is looking forward to being able to return to her friends at the lodge.
Until then, I keep working with her on her concussion (oh, they did the tests, have not received any news yet) and her spirits. Baby steps Mom - baby steps - you will get there.

Sorry Guys - have not been updating the blog to regularly - my hours have changed and I am trying to get my life back in a schedule.
Monday - I saw Mom on Monday - again, she was very tired from the physio but still in positive spirits - she has been working on the laptop more which is really good for her concussion.
One of the outfits that I got her looked awesome on her - exactly her colors - and she said they were really comfortable.
I went shopping again for the "Diva" as she wanted a housecoat, deorderant, and night gowns. I fulfilled the Queen's wish list - hopefully I was as successful as I was with the other outfits.
Will be seeing Mom again on Saturday, will give you an update then.
Thank you, again, for keeping Mom in your thoughts and prayers.

What a BEAUTIFUL day we had today!
Mom - the social butterfly that she is - was not in her room but out in the solarium doing a puzzle - and yes, people, she got there on her own. We went back to her room too see all the goodies that I had brought.
I took all the clothes out to Mom to review - she loved them all! Plus I remembered my camera so that she could take pictures of her deer; a container for the shortbread (All mine John - all mine! Leslie, the blanket is next!).
While I was there, Mom suprised me by using the facilities on her own! Dr. Jablonski was correct, Mom is doing AWESOME.
I talked to Mom about my conversation with Dr. Jablonski - how he feels that she is suffering from a concussion, and that would explain her symptoms that she had been experiencing. She seemed to be a little relieved at that. I told her that she will be having some tests done to determine how severe the concussion is and that will lead to her treatment. Will keep you all informed once I hear anything.
I surprised Mom by taking her for a car ride (just to get a change in scenery and fresh air). We drove around Black Diamond, then headed into Okotoks for Dairy Queen ice cream ( I told Mom that if she was a good girl, she could have a treat! How the tables have turned - me being the parent and her being the child - funny, she doesn't listen any better than I did!) After that, we drove back through Black Diamond and headed into Turner Valley - don't blink - you will miss it!
Mom started to show signs of getting tired, so we headed back to the hospital. With the help of the nurses, we not only got Mom into my car, but we also got her out of the car with no discomfort and just in time for dinner. Surprising, Mom was not hungry.
We got her computer up and running again (stupid little gizmo was dead - had to be recharged) and she was playing Mahjong when I left. I told Mom not to get up ( she laughed at that one) that I would see myself out.
My next visit with Mom should be Monday.
